LemuRU-486 Lunch Box

Created for the "Hot Lunch" show at La La Land Gallery in Los Angeles. Hand-painted images of ring-tailed lemurs on either side with small reeds applied completely around the sides & the thermos. Standard plastic handle has been replaced with a piece of bamboo & the thermos cup is textured with a clear orange lemur eyeball that originally lit up (but not super well.) Inside is decoupaged with real leaves that somehow managed to stay green all this time.

NOT a functional lunch box. I mean, you COULD technically use it, but the inside dimensions are smaller now, due to the leaves to the point where it's a bit tricky getting the thermos out, which isn't remotely liquid-tight anymore. Plus, it's painted with acrylics & will get banged up pretty easily. I mean, take a look at vintage metal lunch boxes from the 1970s & 80s. Good luck finding one that isn't all chipped up & rusted & those things were designed for daily use. Really, you're buying this as a display item. It's artwork that just happens to be also be in lunch box format.
